There’s something about a KitKat that takes me right back to my childhood — that satisfying snap, the wafer, the unhurried pause it was made for. So when I found myself by the pool at the Amara Hotel, on June 25, watching Nestlé Professional Singapore launch the KitKat Chocolate Drink, I just had to smile. The break I grew up with had found a whole new form — and a few more reasons to love it.

It was amazing to see how many variations of the little drink there could be. Nestlé had their in-house barista come in and he showed us how the KitKat Chocolate Drink could range from a simple cold chocolate drink (think MILO-van style) to barista-style creations that would be welcome on any café menu.

And then there’s the fun stuff. A soft serve station with KitKat bits as toppings, it’s something that restaurants and cafes can have fun with in their own way.

What stood out for me is the category per se. In our quest for something old school and chocolaty, we’ve been reaching for malts. The KitKat Chocolate Drink is a more forward nod to cocoa, doing what Nestlé does good, and it’s already available at places we all know including Burger King, Nan Yang Dao, Kopitiam, and Koufu.
Amara, where the launch event was held, showcased its high tea set woven around KitKat, and the dessert station was a sweet reminder of how far this “break” can stretch. At S$68++, the High Tea Made with KitKat for two is available at Cafe Oriental till July 5.

As Taimur Ahmed, Business Manager of Nestlé Professional Singapore, put it: “Some brands are just products, KitKat is a feeling. It’s one that people have grown up with, shared with friends, and reached for in their favourite moments. We are proud to bring that feeling to more people across Singapore, one cup at a time.”
One more reason, it seems, to look forward to your next break.
