ETC Travel Retail’s best picks – thoughtful, tasty and traveller-friendly

Following my initial exploration of ETC Travel Retail’s snacks, I’ve had the pleasure of trying some of their other collections. To be honest, I didn’t realise the pretty extensive range of snacks they offered and was quite amazed by the variety.

I previously tried the salted egg yolk fish skin, salmon skin, pineapple tarts, and dried cuttlefish snack, and while there were many options available in the outlet, I couldn’t help but get another pack of the spicy salted egg yolk fish skin (S$10) – it’s that good. The refreshed packaging with more elements on it also adds a new touch to this snack.

Another savoury snack I got was the crispy cuttlefish squid seaweed (S$10), which I actually bought because of the packaging. A snack that’s labelled crispy and packed properly in a box – that’s what I call good packaging that’s traveller-friendly. Taste-wise, I’ve got to say it exceeded my expectations. It was satisfyingly crispy with the saltiness of the cuttlefish squid blending well with the (also crispy) seaweed. My mum and I finished it in a single sitting – very quickly.

A final snack I got was the brownie brittle with pumpkin and sunflower seeds (S$15), which is featured under their premium confectionery range. Brownie brittles are pretty common in the market, but they usually come with almond flakes. By pairing the brownie brittle with pumpkin and sunflower seeds, the seeds (while few) add a fresh, light touch to the chocolate snack, which I think goes well together. It also isn’t too sweet (an Asian’s way of complimenting a snack).

Now on to something different – the beverage section. ETC Travel Retail has a collection of teas and coffees that I think can serve as very thoughtful gifts for colleagues and seniors.

What attracted me to the Floral Tea Bomb Gourmet Mix (S$25) was the unique packaging (it’s in a test tube), but the taste of the tea was the reason why I got it. The staff at the outlet offered a sample of the floral tea, which tasted fruity and refreshing. I like the idea of how each tea bomb is a different flavour and the fact that all the teas are caffeine-free. I’ve yet to try all the flavours but I know for sure that each tea bomb will be nice.

Similarly, I got another caffeine-free lychee freeze-dried fruit tea (S$35), which is essentially a jar of freeze-dried lychee. Instructions on the bottle include how to brew it hot or iced, and I like how refreshing the drink is iced. If you know friends who do not enjoy caffeinated drinks, the range of caffeine-free teas is worth looking at.

The final item I got from ETC Travel Retail was the RelationChip Goals drip coffee (S$15). A box of six sachets, this collaborative creation features coffee from Hook Coffee – a Singaporean home-grown speciality brand. This coffee offers chocolatey and caramel nodes with a smooth flavour profile that’s on the slightly bitter side. A nifty grab-and-go gift, I like how they’ve played with the name of the coffee, especially how they also have other flavours with equally quirky names.

All the items above were from ETC Travel Retail’s Jewel outlet, situated near the link bridge towards Terminal 3, outside Din Tai Fung. These products can also be found at their other outlets in T1 Departure Hall (transit area) and T2 Departure Hall (one in the transit area, the other in the public area).

If you’re looking for gifts for friends and family abroad, I’d recommend taking a look at what ETC Travel Retail has to offer. From thoughtful Singapore-flavour snacks to teas and coffees, there’s something for everyone, all conveniently purchased at a single location.
