At the Samsung AI Village held at CHIJMES yesterday, I had the opportunity to check out some of Samsung’s latest innovations – the Galaxy Z Flip6, Fold6 and the ear buds pro – all packed with lots of AI. Themed in line with the Paris Olympics, the experiential journey got us testing some of the latest features through France.
As someone who’s already on iOS 18 (and somewhat loving it), it was interesting to see how Samsung is also dominating the mobile marketplace with lots of AI features to simplify everyday tasks.
Here’s a quick run-through of the different booths and my thoughts on the tech featured there:
Tasteful translations – ordering a gelato as if you’re in Paris with Interpreter
A gamechanger for those who want to order like a local, but do not speak the language. With a pretty comprehensive language pack, the translations are on-the-go, I’ve got to say that it surpasses Apple’s current translate app as it provides a form of seamless integration into daily interactions.
Haute Finds – learning about Paris using Samsung’s Circle to Search with Google feature

Similar to iOS18’s math function (with AI), Samsung’s Circle to Search with Google feature now allows text/math functions, as well as point and search features. All in all very impressive and intuitive – especially for those who enjoy online shopping or are looking to search the web on the go visually. This feature is a roll-back one and works on the 2022 devices too.
Note: with its features primarily relying on Google, I wasn’t able to get an answer on how it works in a market like China where the use of Google services are restricted.
Nouveau Portraits – snapping the perfect travel-glam shot with friends using FlexCam

It was fun seeing how FlexCam works at this booth. With the new Auto Zoom, FlexCam automatically finds the best framing for users by detecting the subject and adjusting the zoom as required – a plus especially if you’re looking to take the best shots at an attraction!
The staff also explained how the use of the rear cameras ensured high resolution and that such settings can be customised by the user.
Galaxy Atelier – sketching art and seeing it generated into AI art images using Sketch to Image

AI image generation is made even easier now with simple sketches transformed into beautiful (albeit mildly professional) images! With just a rough sketch, the Sketch to Image tool provides image transformations of sketches into different types of images including water colour and pop-art style ones.
Each image generated is watermarked noting the creation of it via AI tool. We also checked with the team who commented that the user owns the image although cropping the watermark out still retains the meta data.
Pocket Interprete – using the in-ear translator Galaxy Buds3 Pro for a ‘tour’ around Paris
The use of Galaxy Buds3 Pro together with the Interpreter app was honestly pretty sweet. Also aimed at integrating daily interactions, audible translations via the Buds3 Pro enhances a user’s experience, especially for conversations or even listening to lectures, without having to read the content on a device.
Availability
The Galaxy Z Fold6, Z Flip6, and Galaxy Buds3 series will be available for pre-order from 10 July 2024, at 9 PM, with general availability beginning on 24 July 2024 in Singapore. The Galaxy Z Fold6 comes in Silver Shadow, Pink, and Navy, while the Galaxy Z Flip6 is available in Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue, and Mint. Additionally, exclusive colours like Crafted Black, White, and Peach (for Galaxy Z Flip6) are available only on the Samsung Online Store.
Final Thoughts
Having gone to the Samsung’s launch event at Gardens by the Bay last year, I’ve got to say they really upped the game this year.
As companies look to capture the market with different AI-driven technologies, it’s comforting to see how AI can be made easy through such devices. This makes such products more accessible to the consumers and many can benefit from it.
